NSW GovernmentSydney Metro Line-wide Works - Mechanical and electrical
EIC Activities’ mechanical and electrical (M&E) engineering team supported the CPB Contractors and UGL project team to deliver systems associated with the Sydney Metro City & Southwest Line-wide Works.
About the project
CPB Contractors and UGL were selected by the NSW Government to deliver the Line-wide works package in support of the Sydney Metro City & Southwest project, part of Australia’s biggest public transport project.
The NSW Government awarded a contract providing revenue of $1.376 billion to the joint venture between CPB Contractors and UGL for the design, construction, and commissioning of:
- Major rail systems in the new twin 15.5km Sydney Metro tunnels from Chatswood to Marrickville
- The expansion of the existing Sydney Metro Trains Facility at Rouse Hill and delivery of the new Sydney Metro Trains Facility South at Marrickville; and
- Tunnel ventilation, mechanical and electrical systems for seven underground stations, and power systems for the Sydenham to Bankstown section.
About EIC Activities’ scope and involvement
Our mechanical and electrical team:
- delivered proof engineering for the tunnel ventilation and fire systems, including a proof engineering report with findings compared to the IFC documentation
- conducted a full review of all ventilation and fire system documentation and reported on findings
- completed simulations using Subway Environmental Simulation software for normal, congested and fire scenarios to determine ventilation system effectiveness to limit tunnel temperatures and effective smoke control
- provided additional M&E work to ensure designer and commissioning requirements were met.
