STT Fairview 1 data centre - Structures
Leighton Asia in joint venture with First Balfour has leveraged the expertise of EIC Activities to support the STT Fairview 1 data centre project in Quezon City, Philippines.
EIC Activities was engaged to deliver the detailed design of challenging temporary works including excavations adjacent to sensitive structures.
EIC Activities also provided innovative and optimised engineering solutions for various permanent works including aluminium cladding panel supporting frames, external façade walls, fuel bunkers and mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection (MEPF) support structures.
About the data centre project
Leighton Asia in joint venture with First Balfour (FBLJV), is delivering Phase 1 of the STT Fairview 1, a multi-phase data centre development project in Quezon City, Philippines.
The contract, which covers general construction works including civil, structural, architectural and MEPF works, is for the project’s first phase which has a total capacity of 28 MW.
Once all four phases of the project are completed, the data centre can offer a development potential of 124 MW of IT load capacity and can cater to the needs of both enterprises and hyperscalers.
Challenging fuel bunker excavations
EIC Activities designed the data centre’s fuel bunker structures and provided the construction methodology in collaboration with the FBLJV project team.
In the process the team developed an innovative glass fibre reinforced polymer (GFRP) soil nailed battered excavation for the construction of the fuel bunkers.
The team also had to overcome challenging constraints for the excavation including the close proximity of an existing retaining wall and adjacent residential dwellings.
Rigorous monitoring was carried out during excavation and the works have now been safely completed on site.
Innovative modularised façade erection
The FBLJV project team and EIC Activities have also jointly developed a modularised aluminium cladding panel structural supporting frame system which will be prefabricated in factory conditions then efficiently erected on site.
The proposed modular method greatly improves construction safety and quality by shifting fabrication activities into factory conditions.
Combined with coordinated planning efforts by the FBLJV project team, the EIC Activities design enables faster erection on site to optimise construction.
The collaborative efforts between the FBLJV project team and EIC Activities on the STT Fairview 1 data centre project demonstrate the combined capabilities of Leighton Asia and EIC Activities in delivering engineering excellence and value in the advanced technology construction sector.
