About the project
HumeLink West is a UGL and CPB Contractors JV and is critical to bringing more affordable and reliable renewable energy to the grid. It is a priority project for the Australian Energy Market Operator and the Commonwealth and NSW Governments. It consists of approximately 360 km of 500 kV overhead transmission lines connecting Wagga Wagga, Bannaby and Maragle and includes upgraded substation infrastructure.
EIC Activities' involvement
EIC Activities was engaged by the JV partners at concept stage and have worked through to detailed design stage to deliver civil, geotechnical, and structures design works supporting the project including the following:Civil
Our civil team’s scope of work includes:
- design and design management of civil works packages (access points, access roads, transmission tower pads, brake and winch sites, drainage)
- intersection safety assessments at 60 access points (approx.) with public roads
- pavement design for access tracks
- fish habitat water crossing investigations and designs
- accommodation and laydown sites – bulk earthworks, drainage, pavements, and access to public roads.
Ground engineering
Our ground engineering team is supporting the project with:
- transmission tower foundation design
- geotechnical investigation - gap analysis and additional scope
- review of geotechnical interpretation reports
- design of temporary works construction platforms.
Structures
Our structures team is providing:
- structural design of piled foundations for transmission tower legs
- structural design of pad footings for steel pole structures.
EIC’s civil, structural and geotechnical designs provide flexibility regarding actual site conditions by making provision for variable soil and hydrology parameters. This allows the construction team to establish conditions at the site and pick from a library of designs to match.
