Over the past ten years, EIC Activities has championed innovation at CIMIC Group. We’ve played a leading role in the development and implementation of new technologies that are now being used on many of our Group’s projects – here are just some of them.
Augmented reality in construction
First developed by EIC Activities in collaboration with CPB Contractors and Leighton Asia, CIMIC Group’s solution uses augmented reality (AR) technology to take design to the construction site.
The AR App enables users to select either whole or part of multiple BIM models and, using a phone or mobile device, superimpose the image on to the site location.
It is used by teams to share an understanding of the design in-situ, address risks and opportunities, compare planned versus actual progress, or locate underground utilities before excavation.
By providing seamless communication of virtual construction information, the solution enhances safety and productivity and minimises any potential misinterpretation of the design or plan. This builds team alignment, and supports client, stakeholder, and subcontractor engagement.
Today this technology has been commercialised as ToBe Maps™ and is one of the products available through CIMIC Group’s new technology business IDD Tech.

Virtual construction
CIMIC Group's ToBe Builder™ is a new breed of planning and collaboration tool assisting design and construction teams to align on what needs to be built when and how. It enables projects to develop a robust, constructable, and synchronised plan to deliver every work package, before deploying to site.
First developed by EIC Activities with support from CPB Contractors, this proprietary tool integrates multiple Commercial Authoring Tools with state-of-the-art simulation and digital twin technologies. It delivers a dynamic virtual work environment, simulating the construction site.
Teams use ToBe Builder to collaborate on design, planning and delivery solutions in a virtual environment before construction commences on site. ToBe Builder equips users to consider the project site context, cost of resources and timing of delivery, and to iterate solutions as the design and plan develop, proactively managing safety, resource efficiency, clash detection and project outcomes.
Today, ToBe Builder is a key component of IDD Tech’s Integrated Digital Delivery software suite, and EIC Activities' ToBe Builder implementation team has strong in-house capacity to help clients use and get the most out of the application.

Geotechnical monitoring and risk management
Geosens™ is an intelligent multi-source data capture, analysis and reporting solution for real-time geotechnical condition monitoring and risk management.
Geosens is tailored to meet geotechnical condition monitoring and risk management needs across the lifecycle of major assets, from delivery to operations and predictive maintenance.
It equips teams to accurately measure and monitor construction and operational impacts on the ground and adjacent structures.
Automated and customisable, Geosens replaces the time-consuming manual management of capturing, inputting, storing, analysing and reporting on vast amounts of data.
Originally developed by EIC Activities in collaboration with CPB Contractors, the solution enables teams to use real-time intelligent data dashboards and alerts, and efficiently meet project, client and government monitoring and reporting requirements.
Today, Geosens is the first instrumentation and monitoring vertical in IDD Tech’s Sensgrid platform.
Sensgrid is a whole-of-life, project and risk management platform for major assets, including roads, rail, tunnels and processing plants. The data acquisition and intelligent reporting solution connects numerous data sources, including internet of things (IoT) and sensor networks.
