Programme investigations, automated reporting, building 4D capability, developing training documents and supporting tenders and projects, is all in a day’s work for the EIC Activities Planning team and Graduate Emma Schumacher.

Active 4D planning

Emma is a key support to the Planning team’s continuous improvement plan, comprised of specific initiatives to improve processes and foster innovation across CIMIC Group.

EIC Activities Senior Planning Manager – Building, Nadia Gant said: “Emma has been instrumental in building the CIMIC Group’s 4D planning capability through her persistence with learning advanced functions of powerful planning tools.”

4D planning integrates time into the 3D Building Information Modelling (BIM). EIC Activities is a leader in active 4D planning which is used to build and test delivery strategies as the programme and the design are being developed.

“Incorporating 4D planning software and business intelligence initiatives, not only helps projects and the business function more efficiently, but it enables specialists and project team members to work together from different locations,” said Nadia.

Build your planning capability

EIC Activities has established a planning framework to maintain a consistent and effective approach to planning across CIMIC Group.

“The team is committed to training planners, project teams and graduates to ensure excellent planning and programme management practices are consistently implemented Group-wide,” said Emma.

Mark Chapman, Principal – Planning said: “Emma has been exposed very early in her career to best practice planning and innovative technologies, equipping her with a strong knowledge base from which to build a successful career in construction.”

Emma’s pathway

Emma commenced with the CIMIC Group graduate program in 2019 and completed her first rotation with Broad Construction as a Site Engineer.

Emma contacted EIC Activities Senior Planner, Fiona Becchio after developing an interest in project planning during her time on site.

“Getting a first-hand perspective from Fiona reinforced my interest in planning and encouraged me to explore it further with EIC Activities,” said Emma.

Emma is continuing with EIC Activities for her third rotation to further build her skills in planning and share this knowledge back on site to support project teams.
